Excursion from Stockholm to Färingsö in Mälar-lake, to Heby and Baltic Sea

Starting from Stockholm's old city Gamla stan

towards the north-west, first in the subway (Tunnelbana) till Brommaplan, then with bus 317, we pass Drottningholm, the island with the royal castle. There we walk through well-kept gardens towards the Kanton-settlement, a donation of an early king to his worker originating from far east.

Further we set on the way to the islands Ekerö and Färingsö, all situated in the large Mälar lake.

An old quarry near Stenhamra (stone hammer) is today a picknick place for youngsters, but the workers' settlements nearby have a beautiful access to the Mälar lake.

Finally we arrive at Vargskog (wulf's  wood), a very silent place in the forest, where the foxes say "good night".

And the evening on the veranda of Katharina's "festival"-cottage contributes to a rural feeling of wellness.

After a few days we leave Vargskog and the Mälar lake and drive southwards. On this way, we are invited

to see friends living near Heby castle.

This was the last time - in happier days - that we met Ulrika, and also her daughter Sofie and her husband Lars.

Heby is a weel kept country castle in Gustavian stile with ... Rokoko facades.   built around 1780 by the famous architect Eric Palmstedt.

Heby castle entrance

Not far from Heby, at the shore of the Baltic Sea, we see our friends from Gamla stan, who invited us to their summer cottage situated with

an exceptionally beautiful view over the adjacient islands.

After a very pleasant day with Eva and Hans,

                        we really enjoy

                    quite a romantic moon night.

Next morning we continue our trip south to Kalmar.
